Kimo’s (Maui)

www.kimosmaui.com

Well, I have to admit, my first couple reviews are stacked “way in the favor” of the restaurants being reviewed. It’s easy to review a restaurant that you LOVE. And I (and my family) LOVE Kimo’s. Let me tell you a quick story first.

My first visit to Kimo’s was in 1988. I was fortunate enough to be invited to visit Hawaii with a friend of mine in college. As broke as I was, I mustered-up some cash for the airline ticket (which I later found-out Nancy paid for the other half, (thank you Nancy,)) and wa-la, I landed on Maui, and stayed at an unbelievable resort for a full week before leaving to go back to Peru, Indiana to celebrate Christmas!

Well, not to get too far off-topic, but I’d never been far from home. And the Nancy’s family had a lot of experience with Hawaii. So they chose very nice places for us to visit and dine. And one of the first nights, Nancy’s Mom took us to Kimo’s.

Now, if you’re planning to visit Maui, or if you’ve been there before, you MUST go to Kimo’s. It’s located on Front Street in Old Lahaina Town. The ambiance is unreal. First of all, get there early. I can’t remember the exact time, but you can call them (808) 661-4811 to find out when they start their seating. Go grab a table outside overlooking the ocean, you won’t be disappointed.

Because, besides the great atmosphere, awesome food selections, and nice selections of wine and fine adult beverages, you will be treated to one of the most incredible views you’ll ever experience in your lifetime. Just take a quick glance up at the top left-hand corner of this sight. The picture taken was from our dinner on New Year’s Eve 2007, overlooking the bay in Lahaina, while enjoying a fine dinner at Kimo’s. The sun sits perfectly, the waves crash gently, and the tiki torches burn to give a glow that you’ll never forget. Your surrounded by like-minded friends wishing to experience the best that Maui has to offer.

And when you finish dining, you simply walk out onto Front Street and immediately become immersed in the feel of a real historical whaling community that time has preserved.

Kimo’s is located at 805 Front Street #A in Old Lahaina Town.

My scores:

Value: 5 Stars
Service: 4.5 Stars
Quality: 4.5 Stars
Atmosphere: 5 Stars
Go Back: 5 Stars

Kimo’s is a restaurant that I consciously remember. Each time I visit I remember what I’m doing, where I am with my life, and forward-think hoping to be back soon. I understand they have several more restaurants, one is on Oahu that I have also visited. They run a tight ship. Please do yourself a favor and go to Kimo’s!
